Description
The ECM 1 MKII is a network player combining a digital-to-analogue converter and a music streamer. It allows lossless digital streams to be played, in high resolution or DSD, directly from streaming services or via a home network connection, without requiring an additional physical source.
The unit features two Cirrus Logic CS4398 converters, each dedicated to a channel, capable of processing streams up to 192 kHz in 24 bit, with upsampling to this same resolution. It supports a wide range of formats, from WAV to FLAC, as well as ALAC, AIFF and DSD up to DSD 128 (5.6 MHz). In terms of measurements, the output impedance is 300 ohms, background noise remains below -145 dB between 20 Hz and 20 kHz, the frequency response extends from 0.5 to 48 kHz and total harmonic distortion plus noise drops below 0.0005%.
The streamer accesses Tidal, Spotify and Qobuz directly without going through a computer, and can also receive an audio stream via AirPlay, DLNA or Bluetooth. It also features WiFi, Spotify Connect and internet radio. On the digital connectivity side, it offers two coaxial inputs and two optical inputs, allowing other external digital sources to be connected to it.
This network player is aimed at dematerialised music enthusiasts wishing to access their preferred streaming services with careful digital-to-analogue conversion, without multiplying the number of boxes between the source and the amplification. It will suit both a streaming-centred set-up and a mixed configuration, thanks to its digital inputs allowing other devices to be connected to it.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is advisable to check that the wireless connections, WiFi and Bluetooth, are working properly, as well as the stability of the streaming application developed by the manufacturer, which may require an update depending on the age of the firmware. A check of the coaxial and optical digital inputs, as well as the proper functioning of the recognition of the various online services, is also recommended, as these elements depend on software compatibility over time.
