Description
The 402 Tribute is a 2-way bookshelf speaker designed and manufactured in France, born from a collaboration between Elipson and Supravox. It takes up the spherical shape characteristic of Elipson speakers from the 1960s, in a moulded cabinet made of silica-loaded resin, with bass-reflex loading via a rear port.
The 165 mm woofer-midrange in cellulose pulp, designed by Supravox, is paired with a 29 mm dome tweeter decoupled from the cabinet and fitted with a damped rear chamber, which limits unwanted resonances. The crossover uses high-end Jantzen Audio components wired point-to-point, with Axon internal wiring, an approach intended to preserve the purity of the signal transmitted to the drivers. With a power handling of 60 W RMS, a sensitivity of 90 dB and an impedance of 8 ohms, it covers a frequency response from 45 Hz to 25 kHz.

What to check before buying used
The Supravox cellulose pulp woofer-midrange deserves a visual check of the cone, which is prone to deformation and moisture damage over time. Also check the condition of the tweeter dome, often fragile against impacts, as well as the state of the resin cabinet, which may show micro-cracks depending on its handling history.
