Description
The Elipson A680 is a multichannel power amplifier designed for audio installations spread across several listening zones. It combines 6 channels organised into 3 independent stereo zones, allowing several rooms or separate spaces to be powered simultaneously from a single unit, while retaining individual control for each.
Each zone delivers 80 watts per channel at 4 Ohms, or up to 150 watts per channel in bridge mode at 8 Ohms for configurations requiring greater power reserve. Total harmonic distortion remains below 1% at 1 kHz at 80 W, and a signal-to-noise ratio above 90 dB ensures clean reproduction, with no perceptible hiss. Frequency response covers 20 Hz to 20 kHz (± 3 dB), and a damping factor above 55 ensures good control of the speakers. Each zone can receive either a shared signal via the bus inputs, or an individual stereo signal via the line inputs, thanks to a dedicated switch, with independent input voltage adjustment for each zone. The RCA bus outputs also allow other multichannel amplifiers to be chained to expand the installation.
This type of amplifier is aimed at installers and individuals wishing to provide sound to several zones of a house or premises from a central point, with independent control of each space. The 2U format and included rack-mounting fixings also make it a suitable choice for technical installations integrated into a cabinet or rack.
Connectivity includes two RCA stereo bus inputs and two RCA stereo bus outputs, three RCA stereo line inputs (one per zone), three 12V trigger input/output sets for automating power-on, three Phoenix speaker connectors (one per zone), and a USB port powered at 5V/2A.

What to check before buying used
On a multizone amplifier such as the A680, test each zone independently: a faulty bridge channel or a clogged bus/line switch can mask a partial fault. Check for the absence of hiss, hum or unexpected cutting out when warm, common signs of ageing capacitors or oxidised potentiometers. Also check the condition of the speaker and RCA terminals, which are subject to wear from chaining other amplifiers, as well as the proper functioning of the internal ventilation after prolonged use under load.
