Description
The Architect IC4 is a ceiling-recessed speaker from Elipson, designed for discreet integration into a room. The most compact model in the Architect In range, it combines a midrange-woofer driver and a tweeter in a coaxial configuration, an arrangement that allows for coherent sound dispersion from a single point of emission.
The midrange-woofer driver uses a 100 mm paper cone mounted on a rubber suspension, while the 19 mm silk dome tweeter can be angled from 35 to 40° in any direction in order to direct sound towards the listening area, regardless of the speaker's position relative to the listener. Frequency response extends from 85 Hz to 20 kHz, with a crossover frequency of 2400 Hz between the two drivers. The sensitivity of 84 dB/1 W/1 m and impedance of 8 ohms allow it to be paired with a moderately powered amplifier, with a maximum power handling of 80 W.
With a diameter of 181 mm, a depth of 92 mm and a cutout diameter of 138 mm, this speaker is suited to installations where available ceiling space is limited. Its purpose makes it a sensible choice for surround channels in a home cinema system, or for background sound in a living room, kitchen or hallway, without taking up any floor space.
The supplied magnetic grille is white and can be painted to match the ceiling colour, a practical feature for a neat installation.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the rubber suspension on the midrange-woofer driver, which can stiffen or crack over time, as well as the integrity of the tweeter's silk dome, which is sensitive to impacts and deformation. The tweeter's swivel mechanism is also worth checking, to ensure it retains its mobility without excessive play. Finally, the magnetic grille should be present and its magnetic fixing system should work properly, particularly if it has been repainted by a previous owner.
