Description
The Architect IC6ST is an in-ceiling speaker from Elipson, distinctive within its Architect In range as the only model offering stereo diffusion from a single installation point. It combines a midrange-woofer driver and two tweeters in a coaxial configuration, allowing it to be used both as a front speaker and as a surround channel within a home cinema or multiroom installation.
The 165 mm midrange-woofer driver uses a paper cone with rubber suspension, while the two 19 mm silk dome tweeters can be pivoted between 35 and 40 degrees in any direction. This adjustability allows the sound to be directed towards the listening area even when the speaker is installed off-axis, an advantage for ceiling installations or layouts constrained by the room's architecture. Frequency response extends from 65 Hz to 20 kHz, with a crossover frequency set at 2200 Hz between the midrange-woofer and the tweeters. Sensitivity of 83 dB/1 W/1 m and impedance of 8 ohms define the amplification required to drive it correctly, given that it accepts a maximum power of 100 W.

What to check before buying used
The paper midrange-woofer cone deserves close inspection: signs of moisture damage, deformation or detachment of the rubber suspension are common on this type of in-ceiling driver, especially if it was installed in a bathroom or sheltered outdoor space. Also check the movement and positioning of the two silk dome tweeters, which can seize up or become detached from their pivot mount after several years. Finally, check the condition of the grille and the spring-loaded mounting clips, which are often worn or missing on units that have been removed and refitted several times.
