Description
The Elipson Architect IC8 100V is a ceiling-mounted speaker designed to be built into a suspended ceiling, intended for sound coverage in large spaces such as offices, schools, commercial buildings or any other venue requiring sound distribution across multiple points.
Its distinctive feature lies in its dual electrical compatibility. In 100-volt mode, it limits signal loss over long cable runs and offers four adjustable power levels (30 W, 20 W, 10 W or 5 W), allowing sound levels to be adjusted room by room in a multi-speaker installation. Connected to a conventional hi-fi or home cinema amplifier in 8 ohms, it accepts up to 125 W and can then operate as a traditional built-in speaker.
The speaker features a 210 mm midrange-woofer with a paper cone and rubber surround, paired with a 25 mm silk dome tweeter that swivels 35° in any direction, allowing the treble to be precisely directed towards the desired listening area. The frequency response extends from 55 Hz to 20 kHz, with a sensitivity of 87 dB/1 W/1 m and a crossover frequency set at 2800 Hz.
This model is primarily aimed at installers and professionals needing to equip large volumes with discreet, even sound coverage, but also at individuals wanting multi-room distribution via a centralised 100-volt-compatible system.

What to check before buying used
The 210 mm midrange-woofer should be examined through the grille: a cracked or detached rubber surround indicates a unit that has spent a long time in a humid environment, common with this type of suspended ceiling installation. Also check the 100 V / 8 ohm switch and the power selector, whose contacts can oxidise over time when left unused. The 35° swivelling tweeter's articulation deserves a check, as it should remain firm and show no excessive play after repeated orientation adjustments.
