Description
The Facet Sub 10 is an active subwoofer from Elipson, designed to complement a hi-fi or home cinema installation by providing an extended bass register. It features a 26 cm woofer mounted in a bass-reflex enclosure, paired with internal amplification that makes it self-sufficient from the main amplifier for low-frequency reproduction.
The bass-reflex port is positioned underneath the subwoofer, a down-firing arrangement that eases placement in the listening room whilst promoting even bass dispersion towards the floor. The Class D amplification delivers 250 watts of power and achieves a stated frequency response of 27 to 150 Hz (± 3 dB). A 24 dB subsonic filter at 20 Hz protects the woofer from excessively low frequencies, while the crossover frequency is adjustable from 40 Hz to 150 Hz to fine-tune integration with the main speakers according to their own bass extension.
This type of subwoofer is aimed at mixed hi-fi and home cinema use, for listeners wishing to reinforce the bass foundation of a stereo speaker pair or complement a multichannel system. The L/R line inputs and the dedicated LFE input allow it to be connected to either a conventional hi-fi amplifier or a home cinema AV receiver via its subwoofer output.

What to check before buying used
The 26 cm woofer and its down-firing port deserve a direct check: no sign of a worn suspension noise or driver rub, particularly if the subwoofer has spent a long time resting without its base. On the Class D amplification, test the automatic standby function and check for the absence of hum or unwanted cut-outs across the full 40-150 Hz range. Finally, check that the subsonic filter and crossover frequency control work properly, as the potentiometer can become crackly with age.
