Description
The Facet Sub 8 is an active subwoofer from Elipson, designed to reinforce the low-frequency register of a hi-fi or home cinema system. It belongs to the French manufacturer's Prestige Facet range, whose aesthetic codes it shares, and is intended to work alongside main speakers to provide the low-frequency foundation they often lack.
The subwoofer is built around a bass-reflex design with the port placed underneath the cabinet (down firing), a layout that makes positioning within a room easier while directing bass output towards the floor. The built-in amplification delivers 150 watts in Class D, a compact and energy-efficient technology. A 24 dB subsonic filter at 20 Hz protects the driver from frequencies too low to be usefully reproduced, while the crossover frequency is adjustable between 50 Hz and 150 Hz to fine-tune the blend with the main speakers. The stated bandwidth runs from 35 to 150 Hz at ± 3 dB, placing the unit in an extended bass register rather than the extreme sub-bass range.

What to check before buying used
The down-firing port underneath the cabinet must remain clear of the floor by several centimetres: thick carpet or a rug can muffle the bass or cause air noise. Check that the crossover frequency control (50-150 Hz) and the level potentiometers work correctly, as these are often prone to crackling after several years. Listen to the driver at high volume to detect any bottoming out or distortion indicating a worn suspension, and check that the built-in Class D amplifier does not cut out unexpectedly during use.
