Description
The Elipson Heritage XLS 15 is a 3-way floorstanding speaker with front-firing bass-reflex loading, designed to reproduce the full sound spectrum with a dedicated driver for each register. It is installed as the main speaker of a stereo hi-fi system, in conjunction with an amplifier suited to its power and impedance.
The design combines a 30 cm diameter woofer with a cellulose cone, a treated 55 mm dome midrange covering nearly three octaves, and a 22 mm silk dome tweeter derived from the one fitted to the brand's Prestige Facet series. This three-way arrangement aims for better definition across the whole frequency range, stated as 40 Hz to 25 kHz, with crossover frequencies set at 700 Hz and 5,000 Hz. The reinforced MDF cabinet contributes to the mechanical rigidity of the whole.
A 2 dB amplitude adjustment allows the midrange and treble output to be tailored to the listening room or the listener's preferences. The speaker can be placed on its supplied 7° angled base, to aid acoustic phase alignment, or on an optional metal stand that raises it by 19 cm while retaining this angle.
With a sensitivity of 92 dB and an impedance of 6 ohms, this floorstander suits amplifiers delivering 50 to 200 W, for a rated handling power of 200 W RMS. What to check before buying used
Check the flexibility of the surrounds on the 30 cm woofer: sagging or hardened foam impairs the seal of the bass-reflex loading and the low-frequency performance. Inspect the midrange dome and silk tweeter for deformation, impact marks or discolouration caused by prolonged sun exposure. Also check the condition of the MDF cabinet, particularly the corners and the veneer, as well as the proper functioning of the 2 dB amplitude control, which can crackle or lose effect on an older unit.
