Description
The Heritage XLS 7 is a 2-way bookshelf speaker from Elipson, the most compact model in the Heritage XLS range alongside the XLS 11 and XLS 15. Its reduced footprint makes it suited to installations where space must remain limited, without compromising on careful sound reproduction.
It pairs a 165 mm midrange-woofer with a cellulose pulp cone with a 22 mm silk dome tweeter fitted with a double magnet, a configuration typical of speakers with a vintage character seeking a smooth rendering in the upper part of the spectrum. The reinforced MDF cabinet and bass-reflex loading contribute to mechanical stability and low-frequency extension, with a stated frequency response of 49 Hz to 25 kHz. A gain adjustment of plus or minus 2 dB on the treble allows the tonal balance to be adjusted according to the room or the listener's taste. With a sensitivity of 88 dB, an impedance of 6 ohms and a recommended power of between 30 and 120 W, it works well with amplifiers of modest to intermediate power.

What to check before buying used
On this type of compact bass-reflex speaker, check the condition of the cellulose cone on the midrange-woofer: tears, sagging or detachment at the surround are the most common signs of wear. Also check the silk dome tweeter, which is prone to accidental dents, as well as the proper operation of the treble gain control if fitted on the rear panel. Testing at moderate then progressively higher volume allows any unwanted noise or distortion localised to one of the two drivers to be detected.
