Description
The Elipson Horus 10C is a centre speaker designed to occupy the centre channel of a home cinema system, tasked with reproducing dialogue and voice within a surround setup. It shares its driver configuration with the Horus 11F floorstanding speaker, ensuring tonal consistency between the different speakers of a single installation.
This 2-way speaker pairs two 13 cm midrange/woofer drivers with a fibreglass-coated cellulose pulp cone with a 25 mm soft silk dome tweeter fitted with a neodymium magnet, with a crossover point set at 2500 Hz between the two drivers. The MDF cabinet and front laminar port bass-reflex loading maintain good bass control despite the compact format, while avoiding a constrained reproduction of the midrange register where voices sit. With a sensitivity of 91 dB and a nominal impedance of 6 ohms, it accepts amplification between 30 and 150 W for a power handling of 100 W RMS, and covers a frequency response of 52 Hz to 25 kHz.

What to check before buying used
With this type of centre speaker, it is worth checking the condition of both cellulose pulp cones and their suspensions, which can crack or come away with time. The tweeter's silk dome also deserves a visual inspection, as this soft material is prone to accidental dents. A test at moderate volume allows any unwanted noise or distortion caused by ageing drivers to be identified.
