Description
The Horus 8S is an active subwoofer designed by Elipson to complement a stereo hi-fi system or a home cinema installation. It was designed to pair with the Horus 6B bookshelf speakers or the Horus 11 floorstanding speakers, in a deliberately compact format that makes it easier to fit into a living room.
This model is based on a "Down Firing" passive radiator principle, combining a 20 cm active driver with a passive driver of the same diameter, both fitted with a reinforced and ribbed cellulose pulp cone. This pairing, driven by a 150 W RMS Class D amplifier, delivers deep, punchy bass despite the subwoofer's contained footprint. Frequency response spans 33 to 200 Hz, with a crossover frequency adjustable between 40 and 200 Hz and phase adjustable from 0 to 180°, two settings that allow the subwoofer to be tuned to the room's acoustics and to the associated speakers.

What to check before buying used
On an active subwoofer of this type, the built-in amplifier and its power supply are the first elements to test during extended operation, listening for any background noise or unexpected cut-outs linked to automatic standby.
