Description
The Music Center Connect HD is an integrated amplifier from Elipson, recognisable by its circular shape, unusual for this type of device. It combines in a single chassis a stereo amplifier, a slot-in CD player, an FM RDS tuner and several wireless connectivity modules, centralising music playback in a living room without the need for multiple separate units.
The amplification is based on a Class D architecture with Bang & Olufsen's ICEpower technology, paired with an internal 32-bit / 192 kHz DSP for signal processing. The stated power output is 2x120 W at 4 ohms and 2x60 W at 8 ohms, enough to power living room speakers directly without going through a separate power stage. A pre-out output remains available, however, for pairing the unit with an external power amplifier if needed.
On the source side, the device covers both networked digital audio and classic physical inputs: Wi-Fi streaming (Hi-Res in solo mode, CD quality in multiroom mode), Bluetooth SBC, AAC, aptX and aptX HD, an optical digital input, two RCA inputs, a 3.5 mm mini-jack input and a USB port. The dedicated subwoofer output features a variable filter from 50 to 200 Hz, allowing the crossover point to be adjusted according to the main speakers used.

What to check before buying used
On this circular amplifier, test the slot-in CD player first: an unusual dragging noise or a disc being ejected indicates a worn mechanism, which is costly to repair. Also check the responsiveness of the touch-sensitive controls and display, as well as proper pairing of multiroom Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with the app, as these modules can become desynchronised over time. Listening to the subwoofer and pre-out outputs helps rule out any issue with the ICEpower stage.
