Description
The P1 is a stereo preamplifier from Elipson, designed to sit between one or more sources and a power amplifier. It handles input selection and volume control ahead of the amplification stage, with the aim of transmitting the audio signal while altering its original quality as little as possible.
On the technical side, the unit displays distortion below 0.001% and a signal-to-noise ratio above 102 dB, two figures that reflect very low background noise and sonic artefacts when listening. Its frequency response spans from 2 Hz to 120 kHz (+/- 3 dB), a wide range that exceeds the human audible spectrum and ensures consistent reproduction across the entire musical register. Crosstalk of -100 dB limits interference between the two stereo channels, supporting a precise sound image. The P1 delivers an output gain of 12 V via RCA and 18 V via XLR, with an impedance of 500 kohms.
This preamplifier is aimed at enthusiasts of hi-fi setups built around several sources, who are looking for a balanced XLR connection to their power amplifier or wish to retain the option of connecting a subwoofer or headphones. Its modularity, made possible by optional input cards, allows it to accompany the evolution of a hi-fi system over time rather than imposing a fixed configuration.
The P1 is also available in a P1F version, fitted with a phono input, not to be confused with the model presented here, which does not have one. Made in France at the brand's factory in Burgundy, it features a control display on the front panel and a dedicated remote control.
