Description
The Prestige Facet II 8B is a 2-way bass-reflex bookshelf speaker designed by Elipson. It is installed on stands or as an addition to a stereo system to reproduce an audio signal via an architecture with two distinct drivers, one dedicated to low-mid frequencies, the other to high frequencies.
The 170 mm low-mid driver features a central cone designed to better control diaphragm movement and limit turbulence responsible for distortion; it also helps absorb and dissipate unwanted vibrations. The 25 mm soft silk dome tweeter takes over in the treble range. The passive crossover paired with the two drivers uses low-resistance inductors, polypropylene capacitors and metal-film resistors, a combination aimed at better frequency separation and more controlled bass. With a sensitivity of 90 dB/1W/1m and an impedance of 6 ohms, the speaker accepts a power handling of 85 W RMS and a recommended amplification of between 30 and 120 W. What to check before buying used
The suspension of the 170 mm driver deserves close inspection: it cracks or softens with age, which affects bass performance. Also check the condition of the tweeter's silk dome, which is prone to dents and tears when touched. The cabinet should be examined for chips, swelling or signs of moisture on the veneer, and a low-volume test will help detect any unwanted noise in the passive crossover.
