Elipson Stand

Behind this understated name lies an accessory designed as an extension of a range: the Stand is the floor stand Elipson created for its own speakers and its amplifier-tuner. This is not a universal support but a dedicated base, whose top plate and height were defined specifically for the in-house models, W35 Xi, W35+, Planet L, Planet LW, Planet L Performance, Music Center HD and Music Center Connect HD.

The construction is entirely metal, in steel, which explains the stated mass of 15 kg. On a speaker stand, this weight is not a minor detail: the heavier and more rigid the structure, the less it vibrates in sympathy with the driver, and the better the speaker remains steady on its axis during bass-heavy passages. The 80 cm height, meanwhile, places the mid-high driver at the level of a seated listener's ears, the listening position for which these speakers were designed.

Three points are worth noting when making a choice:

• a height of 80 cm, 830 mm overall including the base
• a footprint of 350 x 350 mm, ensuring stability on parquet or carpet
• a cable channel built into the column, which routes the speaker cable inside the stand rather than along its visible face

The Stand was offered in three finishes, black, chrome and gunmetal grey, allowing the stand to be matched to the colour of the speaker placed on it or to the room's furniture. It is intended for those who already own one of the compatible Elipson models and wish to move them off a piece of furniture or a shelf, a configuration where the cabinet ends up too low and too close to the walls.

When buying a stand of this type second-hand, examine the finish first: chrome steel scratches and pits, black lacquer marks at the corners, and the base may have suffered from scuffing on the floor. Next, check the verticality of the column and the absence of play at the junction between the shaft and the plates, as well as the complete presence of the original fixing screws and feet, which are often lost during a house move. Finally, check that the cable channel is not obstructed and that the speaker you own does indeed appear on the compatibility list.
