Description
The Elipson W35 is a wireless active speaker distinguished by its characteristic spherical shape, a hallmark of the French manufacturer. With a diameter of 35 cm, it integrates within a single unit the amplification, drivers and streaming electronics needed to play music without going through a separate hi-fi system.
The amplification relies on four Class D modules delivering 350 W in total, paired with a symmetrical driver configuration: two 16.5 cm woofer-midranges and two 25 mm silk dome tweeters, arranged on either side of the sphere. This layout aims for even sound diffusion around the speaker rather than conventional frontal emission.
On the connectivity side, the W35 covers the essentials of current wireless use: AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth aptX HD for streaming from a smartphone, tablet or computer, complemented by a Toslink optical input and a mini-jack input for wired sources. The Elipson app provides access to the Tidal, Deezer and Qobuz streaming services, as well as internet radio.
This model is aimed at those seeking a single music solution, without a separate amplifier or speakers to set up, while retaining a substantial sound level and power. The possibility of pairing two W35 units in stereo allows for expansion to a two-speaker setup if needed.

What to check before buying used
The suspensions of the two 16.5 cm woofer-midranges are worth a visual and audible check, as sagging or tearing would indicate a heavily used unit. Also check that the four Class D modules deliver their power without distortion or unexpected cut-outs, a common symptom of a tired power supply. The moulded plastic spherical shell should be examined for any micro-cracks or impact marks, which can be hard to see on a curved surface. Finally, test the stability of the AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth pairing, as some ageing Wi-Fi modules lose connection reliability.
