Description
The Sonos Roam is a compact portable speaker designed to follow the user both inside the home and outdoors. It operates over Wi-Fi to integrate into a Sonos multiroom system, then automatically switches to Bluetooth as soon as it leaves the home network, without any particular action needed from the user.
Its triangular shape allows it to be placed vertically in a small space, or horizontally on an uneven surface for greater stability: in this second position, the sound is directed upwards towards the listener. Automatic Trueplay calibration adjusts the sound output according to the listening location and the content being played. The speaker features a rechargeable battery and can be recharged wirelessly via a Qi-certified charger or with the supplied cable. Its structure carries an IP67 rating, making it resistant to dust and drops, and allowing it to withstand immersion to a depth of one metre for 30 minutes.
Weighing 430 g with dimensions of 168 x 62 x 60 mm, the Sonos Roam is aimed at those who want an easily portable speaker to take into the garden, on a walk or from one room to another, while retaining the option of integrating it into a wider Wi-Fi multiroom system with other Sonos speakers.

What to check before buying used
The triangular casing withstands knocks, but check for the absence of cracks around the grip areas and the condition of the speaker grilles, which are often marked after intensive outdoor use. The charging port and wireless charging contacts on the back must remain clean and free from oxidation to ensure reliable charging. As the battery is a wear component, noticeably reduced battery life compared to the originally advertised 10 hours is a normal sign of wear on a unit that has already seen use. Also test the pairing button and the automatic Wi-Fi/Bluetooth switching, which can become unreliable over time.
