Description
The Avant 908 is a 3-way floorstanding speaker from Mordaunt Short, designed as the flagship model of its Avant range. It features a dedicated subwoofer, intended to reinforce low-frequency reproduction within a bass-reflex enclosure.
Its frequency response extends from 35 Hz to 22 kHz, reflecting broad coverage from deep bass through to the treble. With a sensitivity of 90 dB, it makes the most of moderately powered amplifiers while accepting a power handling of between 15 and 150 W, allowing appreciable headroom depending on the associated electronics. What to check before buying used
The integrated subwoofer warrants particular attention: it is worth checking the condition of the woofer suspension(s), which can stiffen or crack over time. Checking the bass-reflex port and its behaviour at low volume helps identify any unwanted noise or loss of seal.
