Description
The Escape P9 is an amplified portable speaker designed for self-contained sound reproduction, both indoors and outdoors. It houses its own amplifier, battery and five drivers, making it a complete system, ready to use without separate electronics.
The built-in amplifier delivers 100 W RMS for a stated frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, covering the entire audible spectrum. Signal processing is handled by two 24-bit DSP processors, responsible for equalisation and bass management, whilst the 20 cm subwoofer sits on a fibreglass-reinforced composite chassis, designed to accommodate a larger magnet without distortion. IPX4 certification protects the unit against water splashes, an advantage for outdoor use or use near water.
As for battery life, the battery offers around 8 hours of use and has the particular feature of being removable and replaceable, meaning it can be replaced independently of the rest of the unit. The speaker is controlled via a mobile app and offers 360° sound dispersion, designed to fill a room or outdoor space without any particular orientation to observe. A carry handle makes it easier to move despite its weight of 12.30 kg.

What to check before buying used
The removable battery should be load-tested: battery life noticeably below the stated 8 hours points to an ageing pack, which can nevertheless be replaced independently of the rest of the speaker. The suspensions of the 20 cm subwoofer and the satellite drivers should be listened to at high volume to detect any blurring or distortion indicating sagging. It is also worth checking the condition of the seals around the battery compartment and the jack/USB connectors, which are what maintain the IPX4 rating, as well as checking for any looseness or impact damage on the cabinet.
