Ever solo DMP-A8
EverSolo DMP-A8 audiophile network player, combining connected source, digital-to-analogue converter and preamplifier functions, for a centralised digital hi-fi setup.
Description
The EverSolo DMP-A8 replaces three links in a digital chain on its own: it plays music from the local network and streaming services, converts it to analogue, then handles preamplification to a power amplifier or active speakers. Its machined aluminium chassis, with grooved sides, houses a brushed front panel fitted with a multifunction dial ringed with LEDs and a 6-inch (15.2 cm) touchscreen LCD which serves as a genuine control centre: file navigation, access to platforms and detailed settings are all handled directly on the unit.
The conversion section is built around two AK4191EQ chips paired with AK4499EX units, supported by an XMOS XU316 audio processor, an OPA1612 amplifier stage and a dual AccuSilicon femtosecond clock. This combination accepts streams up to DSD512 and PCM 768 kHz 32-bit, as well as MQA, both from the network and via Bluetooth 5.0 (SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX LL, aptX HD, LDAC). The 4 GB of DDR4 and 64 GB of eMMC ensure a smooth interface, while an M.2 NVMe 3.0 2280 bay allows up to 4 TB of files to be stored internally.
Connectivity covers virtually every scenario: optical and coaxial digital inputs up to PCM 192 kHz 24-bit and DSD64 DoP, optical/coaxial output, an HDMI output accepting native multichannel DSD64 and PCM 192 kHz, balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA line outputs, two USB-A 3.0 ports including one audio output and one OTG port, gigabit Ethernet and dual-band 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. On the software side, the player is Roon Ready certified and supports Tidal, Qobuz, HighResAudio, Amazon, Spotify, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay, DLNA, UPnP and WebDAV.
This model is aimed at the listener who wants to build a complete digital source without stacking units or multiplying connecting cables. Its XLR output and preamplifier function make it particularly well suited to feeding a power amplifier or active speakers, while its optical and coaxial inputs allow a television or existing player to be connected. An EM-01 calibration microphone is available as an option for this model.

What to check before buying used
With this type of player, the 6-inch touchscreen is the first point to check: responsiveness across the whole surface, no dead zones, and proper operation of the dial and its light ring. Next, check the stability of the dual-band Wi-Fi and the Ethernet port, as well as drive recognition in the M.2 NVMe bay if an SSD is fitted. Finally, test each output one by one, XLR, RCA, HDMI, optical/coaxial and USB audio, as a faulty connector can easily go unnoticed on such a well-equipped unit, and make sure the firmware update completes correctly.
