Description
The EverSolo Play CD is a connected hi-fi amplifier combining stereo amplification with a built-in CD player. It brings together in a single unit a network streaming source, a dedicated DAC and an optical playback mechanism, allowing it to cover both dematerialised music listening and physical disc playback without the need for multiple devices.
The amplification delivers 60 W RMS into 8Ω and 110 W RMS into 4Ω, with a gain of 20.8 dB. Total harmonic distortion measured between 20 Hz and 20 kHz remains below 0.0037%, and the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 109 dB: two figures that reflect a clean sound reproduction, with very low background noise even at sustained volume. The frequency response extends from 20 Hz to 40 kHz (-3 dB) and channel separation reaches 108 dB, ensuring good definition of the stereo image. On the digital side, the AKM AK4493SEQ DAC supports Hi-Res files up to 32-bit/768 kHz and DSD512 via DLNA or USB, while the optical, coaxial and HDMI ARC inputs accept up to 24-bit/192 kHz with DSD64 for the first two.
The Hitachi optical CD-ROM drive is mounted in an anti-vibration structure designed to limit resonance and stabilise disc rotation. Error correction algorithms are stated to improve playback of scratched or older discs, and the unit also allows ripping CDs to an external storage device.
The connectivity includes an RCA line input, an RCA phono input, an optical input, a coaxial input, an HDMI ARC input, two USB-A ports, a coaxial output, a trigger input and screw-terminal speaker connections. This range allows connection of a turntable as well as a television or external digital sources.
This amplifier is aimed at users wishing to centralise streaming, analogue sources, digital sources and physical CD playback within a single setup, without going through a separate preamplifier or source. Microphone-based acoustic calibration, the 15-band graphic and 10-band parametric equalisers, and the genre presets are aimed at those wishing to fine-tune the sound reproduction according to the room and the type of speakers used.

What to check before buying used
The CD tray and Hitachi optical unit deserve a playback test across several discs, including towards the end of the disc, to rule out any skipping or mechanism noise linked to laser wear. Also check the tray's closing and ejection, as the plastic drive mechanisms can wear over time. Testing the HDMI ARC, optical and coaxial outputs, as well as the speakers under load, confirms that the amplification stage and the AKM DAC operate without distortion or a muted channel.
