Description
The Evolution 2250e is a stereo power amplifier from Krell, intended to complement a hi-fi system already fitted with a preamplifier or a source with a line output. Its role is to amplify the audio signal with a substantial power reserve, in order to drive demanding speakers, including those known to be difficult to drive.
This amplifier incorporates the technologies developed for Krell's Evolution range, including oversized power supplies and balanced Krell Current Mode circuitry. This balanced architecture, combined with a generous power supply, delivers 2x250 watts into 8 ohms, rising to 2x500 watts into 4 ohms. This ability to double its power output as the speaker impedance halves reflects a high output current and good control over reactive loads, a key point when it comes to handling low-impedance speakers.

What to check before buying used
On this type of high-headroom power amplifier, the large filtering capacitors age over time and may lose capacitance, especially if the unit has been left unused for extended periods: checking their condition is recommended. Also check that the standby mode works correctly and listen for any noise or hum at start-up, which would indicate an ageing power supply.
