Description
The 100 IW6 is an in-wall 2-way speaker by Focal, designed to blend into a wall while delivering refined stereo or multichannel listening. It suits a hallway for ambient sound distribution just as well as a living room, bedroom or kitchen for more attentive listening, or as a satellite speaker in a Home Cinema setup.
It combines a swivelling 25 mm inverted dome aluminium tweeter with a 16.5 cm midrange/woofer featuring a Polyglass cone. This swivelling tweeter allows the sound dispersion to be adjusted according to the listening position, a useful feature for a speaker fitted into a wall. Built-in correctors allow the treble and midrange registers to be equalised in order to adapt the sound to the room's acoustics.
Its frequency response extends from 60 Hz to 23 kHz (+/- 3 dB), with a low cut-off frequency of 48 Hz (-6 dB). With a sensitivity of 89 dB and a nominal impedance of 8 Ω (7.2 Ω minimum), it accepts a recommended amplification power of between 25 and 120 W, making it compatible with the majority of hi-fi or Home Cinema amplifiers on the market.
With a depth of 195 mm for dimensions of 92 mm in height by 298 mm in width, and an installation depth of 3.44 inches, it fits into partition walls without requiring much space behind the wall. Its magnetic grille ensures a discreet finish once installed. It is aimed at those seeking sound distribution integrated into the architecture, without visible speakers on the floor or on furniture, for small to medium-sized spaces.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the Polyglass cone, which may show deformation, cracks or indentation marks after handling or intensive use. The inverted dome tweeter also deserves particular attention: its swivelling mechanism should remain smooth and free of excessive play. The built-in equalisation correctors, often in the form of selectors, should be tested to ensure there is no crackling or faulty contact caused by oxidation. Finally, the magnetic grille and its fixing system must be present and complete, as they determine both the final appearance and the protection of the speaker.
