Focal 1000 IWLCR Utopia

The 1000 IWLCR Utopia is a sealed, bi-amplifiable in-wall speaker from Focal, designed to blend into a room thanks to its paintable magnetic grille. It can operate in left, centre or right position, making it a foundation for a complete Home Cinema installation, as well as a speaker for stereo listening.

It houses four 16.5 cm "W" cone woofers, two 8 cm "W" cone midranges with an "M"-profile mounted in an Appolito configuration, and a 27 mm pure Béryllium inverted dome tweeter. This architecture, manufactured in France, aims for a fine and detailed reproduction across the whole spectrum. The sensitivity of 92 dB (2.83V/1m) and the nominal impedance of 8 Ω (minimum 4.2 Ω) determine the amplification required: Focal recommends a power between 100 and 750 W under 8 Ω, or between 200 and 1500 W under 4 Ω, which implies an amplifier capable of delivering a substantial power reserve. The stated frequency response spans from 45 Hz to 40 kHz (±3 dB), with a low-frequency roll-off at 40 Hz (-6 dB).

The ability to adjust the drivers allows the output to be tailored to the acoustics of the listening room, an advantage for an in-wall installation where the position and the surrounding structure strongly influence the perceived sound. Focal also offers the 1000 IWSUB Utopia subwoofer, designed to be paired with the 1000 IWLCR Utopia on the same amplification channel, with the possibility of assembling several units according to bass requirements.

This model is intended for a high-end in-wall installation project, Home Cinema or stereo, in a room where visual discretion is paramount without any compromise on sound quality. The in-wall cut-out dimensions of 1134 x 276 mm and a depth of 99 mm must be checked beforehand, as must compatibility with any existing amplification, given the recommended power range.
