Focal Aria 906

The Aria 906 is a 2-way Bass-reflex bookshelf speaker from Focal, built around the Flax cone in flax fibre that has made the Aria range's reputation. It combines a 16.5 cm bass-midrange driver with a 2.5 cm inverted dome tweeter, for high-fidelity listening designed for music lovers who value a natural rendering rather than an artificially forward sound.

The Flax cone, manufactured in France by Focal since 2013, is a sandwich made up of a flax fibre core placed between two thin layers of glass fibre. Twice as light as glass fibre alone and with very low elasticity, it combines lightness, rigidity and damping: in listening terms, this translates into good dynamics, controlled bass and a rich midrange, without excessive colouration. The TNF tweeter, derived from the Utopia Beryllium tweeter, uses a suspension made from a shape-memory material, Poron, which reduces distortion threefold between 2000 and 3000 Hz, a range that is particularly sensitive to the human ear. Its low directivity also improves spatialisation, wherever you are positioned in the room.

In terms of measurements, the Aria 906 offers a frequency response of 55 Hz to 28 kHz (+/- 3 dB), extending down to 47 Hz at -6 dB, with a sensitivity of 89.5 dB (1 W at 1 m) and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms (4.6 ohms minimum). It accepts a recommended power of between 25 W and 120 W, making it compatible with a wide range of integrated amplifiers or moderate-power hi-fi systems.

Focal recommends this speaker for rooms from 15 m², with a listening distance of around 2.5 m: it is therefore intended for medium-sized living rooms and classic stereo setups, rather than very large spaces or near-field use. Its positioning targets listeners looking for hi-fi with real character without moving into the very top end of the range.
