Description
The Focal Aria 906 is a 2-way bass-reflex bookshelf speaker, manufactured in France. It belongs to the Aria range and combines two technologies specific to Focal: the TNF tweeter and the Flax cone, usually reserved for the brand's higher ranges.
The TNF (Tuned Mass Damper) inverted dome tweeter in aluminium/magnesium alloy is derived from the beryllium tweeter of the Utopia range. Its shape-memory Poron suspension divides the distortion measured between 2 and 3 kHz by three, resulting in a cleaner and less fatiguing top end. The 165 mm woofer uses a Flax cone, a sandwich of French linen fibre and glass fibre, designed to deliver a natural, neutral and dynamic sound.
This speaker is suited to a small or medium-sized hi-fi system, for close listening or in a moderately sized room given its bookshelf format. Its sensitivity and recommended power range make it compatible with both modest-power amplifiers and more powerful setups, up to 120 W.

What to check before buying used
The Flax cone of the woofer does not withstand impact well: check for deformation, cracks or dents across the 165 mm of the cone, as well as the condition of its surround. The inverted dome of the TNF tweeter, highly exposed on the front, should be examined closely to rule out any finger marks or impact on the aluminium/magnesium alloy. Also check the cabinet (veneer, corners, bass-reflex port) and ensure there is no play or rattling in the driver fixings, a sign of fastenings having loosened over time.
