Description
The Aria Evo X N°4 is a 3-way floorstanding speaker designed and manufactured in France by Focal. It combines an inverted dome tweeter, a midrange driver and two woofers in a bass-reflex enclosure, for a complete sound restitution, from bass to treble.
The TAM tweeter uses an aluminium/magnesium inverted dome diaphragm with an "M"-shaped profile, designed to offer a wide dispersion angle without pronounced directivity: the treble remains detailed and balanced even off the central listening axis. The midrange driver is built on a TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) suspension, a technology patented by Focal that stabilises the diaphragm's movement to limit unwanted vibrations and improve tonal neutrality. The two 21 cm woofers and the midrange driver use the Flax cone, a sandwich of French flax fibre held between two layers of glass fibre, designed to combine lightness, rigidity and damping.

What to check before buying used
The woofers and midrange driver are built on a Flax cone: check for any deformation, cracks or signs of moisture on this composite diaphragm, as well as the flexibility of the midrange's TMD suspension. Also check the condition of the magnetic fabric covers and the absence of unwanted noise or distortion at moderate volume on each driver, indicating a driver or crossover in good condition. The significant weight of each speaker (35 kg) also warrants a careful inspection of the aluminium plinth and its fixing.
