Description
The Kanta N°3 is the high-end reference of Focal's Kanta line, a Hi-Fi floorstanding speaker designed to deliver deep, impactful bass with precise articulation, while maintaining high definition and neutrality in the midrange.
It relies on the combination of two exclusive technologies developed by Focal: a latest-generation pure Beryllium tweeter, named IAL3, which combines the IAL (Infinite Acoustic Loading) and IHL (Infinite Horn Loading) principles to optimise the acoustic loading behind the diaphragm, and midrange and woofer drivers with Flax sandwich cones, a patented material made in France that combines low mass, rigidity and damping for greater sound clarity. The midrange driver benefits from a TMD (Tuned Mass Damping) suspension, while all the drivers use an NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) motor that stabilises the magnetic field for better-controlled bass.
The front baffle is moulded as a single piece from high-density polymer (HDP), a material 70% denser than MDF, 15% more rigid and offering 25% additional damping, which eliminates sound diffraction effects. The Power Flow technology, with two ports on the front and rear panels, limits bass compression.
The Kanta N°3 is aimed at Hi-Fi enthusiasts with a large living room, between 40 and 80 m², where the speaker can fully develop its acoustic performance. Its size and weight of 53 kg per unit call for a substantial listening space and careful installation.

What to check before buying used
The Flax suspension of the midrange and woofer drivers can stiffen or crack with age, especially after storage in a damp or very cold place: a visual check and listening at low power can reveal a loss of bass response. Also check that the Beryllium tweeter dome has not suffered any impact or pressure, as this material is particularly fragile and costly to replace. Finally, examine the HDP front baffle and wood veneer for any chips or lifting, as well as the condition of the internal cabling and the bi-wiring terminals at the rear.
