Description
The Lensys PRO is a closed-back circumaural headphone from Focal, designed to support audio work in the studio as well as on the move. Its closed design limits sound leakage, and the isolation it provides makes it a suitable tool for monitoring and mixing in a variety of environments.
The headphones are built around 40 mm aluminium-magnesium 'M'-shaped dome transducers, which offer a linear frequency response and low harmonic distortion, measured at 0.3% at 1 kHz for 100 dB SPL. The frequency range extends from 5 Hz to 22 kHz at +/- 3 dB, a span that comfortably covers the audible spectrum. The drivers are slightly angled within the earcups to enhance stereo imaging, and their acoustic loading has been engineered to approximate the operation of a bass-reflex speaker. With an impedance of 26 Ω and a sensitivity of 100 dB SPL/1 mW at 1 kHz, the headphones remain easy to drive with most sources.
These headphones are aimed at sound engineers, editors and musicians seeking a neutral tonal balance for accurately judging their mixes. Their versatility also makes them suitable for binaural work and immersive listening sessions, both in the studio and on the move, thanks to their modest weight of 306 g and the supplied carrying case.
Listening comfort is provided by a padded headband covered in microfibre and perforated microfibre earpads combined with 24 mm memory foam. The headphones are supplied with an asymmetric 3 m Spyrale cable (6.35 mm TRS jack), a 1.2 m asymmetric cable (3.5 mm TRS jack) and a 3.5 mm to 6.35 mm stereo jack adapter.

What to check before buying used
Check the suppleness of the earpads and headband padding for cracking, elements that compress and harden over time and are not always replaceable depending on the model's age. Test each earcup separately using headphones to detect a level imbalance or distortion in one transducer, a common symptom of a worn dome. Also examine the cable and its connectors, as well as the hinges and the headband's sliding mechanism, often the first points of weakness on a unit that has seen heavy use.
