Description
The Focal S900 is a speaker stand designed to hold compact speakers, particularly bookshelf models. Its function is twofold: to bring the speaker to a suitable listening height and to provide it with a stable base, a necessary condition for faithful sound reproduction.
The construction combines three materials with distinct roles. The mounting plate, in satin black metal, holds the speaker. The column, in matt aluminium, connects this plate to the base and incorporates a cable channel, which allows the wiring between the speaker and amplifier to be concealed for a neater installation. The base, in glossy black tempered glass, provides ground contact and contributes to the stability of the whole.
Decoupling can be adjusted according to the floor: rubber pads are suitable for parquet or sensitive floors, while decoupling spikes, also supplied, allow for firmer anchoring on carpet or hard flooring.
With its height of 60 cm, the S900 suits bookshelf speakers placed in a seated listening configuration, in a living room or dedicated listening space. It is aimed at those who wish to take their compact speakers off a cabinet or shelf to position them freely, at ear height.

What to check before buying used
The tempered glass plate deserves close inspection: a micro-crack or a chip at the edge weakens the base and may worsen over time. Also check the condition of the cable channel built into the aluminium column, sometimes blocked or damaged by poorly fitted cabling on units that have seen a lot of use. Finally, check that the four rubber pads and the decoupling spikes are present, as they are often mislaid separately, and check the condition of the metal plate, which should show no play or signs of corrosion.
