Description
The Shape Twin is a professional monitoring speaker, positioned as the flagship model of Focal's Shape range. Made in France, it is intended for near-field listening and designed to fit into sound production environments with limited dimensions.
It features two passive radiators and Flax cones on the woofers, combined with an inverted dome tweeter with an "M"-shaped profile, made from Aluminium-Magnesium. Its 2.5-way architecture in an Appolito configuration allows for better control of the bass and low-midrange registers, two areas of the spectrum particularly sensitive to the acoustic constraints of small spaces. This compact design also allows for easier installation in tight spaces, whilst maintaining an extended bass frequency response and a high SPL capability given its size.
The bass stands out for its articulation and control, whilst the low-midrange and midrange frequencies show marked neutrality, without any masking effect. The overall aim is high acoustic transparency and a wide, precise stereo image.

What to check before buying used
The passive radiators and Flax cones deserve careful visual inspection: look for any deformation, cracks or signs of indentation that might indicate a previous impact. On an active monitor, also check that the built-in amplification works properly and that there is no unwanted noise (hiss, crackling) when powered on. Testing at different volume levels helps ensure that the tweeter and woofer show no abnormal distortion across the full spectrum.
