The Solo6 ST is a 2-way monitoring speaker designed by Focal for audio mixing and production environments. It belongs to the ST6 line, which also includes the Trio6 and Twin6 models, and aims for accurate sound stage reproduction intended for demanding professionals and enthusiasts alike.
This speaker incorporates several technologies specific to Focal: a Beryllium tweeter, a "W" composite cone woofer and the driver's TMD® suspension, which reduces distortion by 50% in the frequency range between 1 kHz and 3 kHz. This reduction in distortion within a range particularly sensitive to the ear contributes to clearer listening when working on a mix.
The switchable Focus Mode is a distinctive feature of this speaker: it allows switching between conventional 2-way operation and a 1-way mode where only the woofer reproduces the signal. This switch effectively forms two monitors in one, allowing the user to stay positioned at the sweet spot while mixing, save space on the console, and simplify wiring when changing monitors.

What to check before buying used
On this type of monitoring speaker, the woofer's TMD® suspension deserves close inspection: it should remain supple and symmetrical, with no visible cracking or sagging. Also check that the Focus Mode switch works correctly, along with the parametric filter and variable high-pass filter settings, whose potentiometers can become crackly after several years of use. The tweeter's Beryllium dome should also be checked, as this material is sensitive to impacts and deformation.
