Description
The Sopra Center is a centre speaker designed by Focal to complete the Sopra line in a Home Cinema setup. It is not limited to reproducing dialogue positioned at the centre of the image: its spectrum also covers music, sound effects and ambient sounds, making it a central link in the coherence between picture and sound.
Its 3-way bass-reflex configuration combines two 16.5 cm W cone woofers, an 8 cm W cone midrange driver and a 27 mm pure Beryllium inverted dome tweeter with IHL technology. The crossover frequencies, set at 500 Hz and 2200 Hz, organise the work of each driver. With a sensitivity of 91 dB (2.83 V/1 m), a nominal impedance of 8 Ω (4.1 Ω minimum) and a frequency response from 55 Hz to 40 kHz, it can be driven by an amplifier delivering 40 to 200 W.
It shares its technologies with the other speakers in the Sopra line, Sopra N°1 bookshelf speakers, Sopra N°2 or Sopra N°3 floorstanding speakers, with the same W cones and the same pure Beryllium tweeter. This technical kinship ensures a consistent soundstage: sound moving from one side of the image to the other retains the same tonal character, with no perceptible break.
It is aimed at those who already own, or are considering, a Home Cinema setup built around the Sopra line, and who are looking for complete tonal continuity between the front speakers, the centre channel and the surround speakers.

What to check before buying used
On a speaker of this size and weight, check the condition of the suspensions on both woofers, which can stiffen or crack over time. Also inspect the lacquered finish, which is sensitive to scratches and direct light exposure. A test at moderate volume across the full frequency range will help identify any distortion or unwanted noise from the Beryllium tweeter or the midrange driver.
