Focal Sopra N°2

The Sopra N°2 is a high-fidelity floorstanding speaker designed by Focal to deliver performance close to the Utopia III line in a more compact format, intended to fit into living rooms of realistic proportions. It caters to demanding two-and-a-half-way listening, with particular emphasis on the sonic transparency of the midrange.

The midrange driver benefits from the NIC and TMD technologies developed by Focal, paired with a Beryllium tweeter protected by a grille featuring a dynamic lattice pattern. The architecture relies on an intermediate piece made of injected polyurethane, which allows the upper and lower enclosures to be angled in order to align the acoustic convergence of the drive units, a principle Focal calls Focus Time.

The cabinet employs the Gamma Structure principle: a 69 mm thick front baffle machined from solid material assembled from MDF panels, with no parallel side walls, providing the mechanical inertia required for good sound definition. Helmholtz resonators are integrated into the lower part of the cabinet to limit vertical standing waves. The base is made of glass, a material chosen to enhance coupling to the floor via the adjustable spikes.

With a frequency response of 34 Hz to 40 kHz, a sensitivity of 91 dB and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms (3.1 ohms minimum), the Sopra N°2 accepts a power handling of 300 W. It is suited to living rooms of under 30 m² as well as larger rooms of up to 70 m².

This speaker is aimed at high-fidelity enthusiasts seeking a compact floorstanding speaker capable of delivering great sonic transparency, without the space constraints of a top-of-the-range speaker such as Utopia.
