Description
The SUB 1000 F is an active subwoofer from Focal, designed to complement a hi-fi or home cinema installation by providing the bass extension that main speakers lack. Self-contained, it integrates its own amplification and controls, without requiring a dedicated external power amplifier for the bass.
The 30 cm woofer relies on the Flax sandwich cone, Focal's proprietary technology based on flax fibre. This type of cone aims for a compromise between lightness and rigidity, sought in order to achieve bass that is both fast and precise rather than simply powerful and blurred. The 1000 W BASH amplification is based on a hybrid Class D / AB topology, an architecture that combines the energy efficiency of Class D with the sound quality associated with Class AB.
The integrated active filter allows the crossover frequency and gain to be adjusted, which enables fine-tuning of the subwoofer according to the main speakers and the listening room, without going through an external processor.

What to check before buying used
Test the BASH amplification before purchase: a fault in this type of hybrid Class D/AB module renders the subwoofer entirely inoperative. Inspect the suspension of the 30 cm woofer and the Flax cone for tears, sagging or signs of impact, as a cabinet of this weight may have been handled without care. Also check that the crossover frequency and gain potentiometers respond smoothly without crackling or dead spots, a common sign of oxidation on an active filter left unused for a long time.
