Description
The Sub Air is a wireless active subwoofer designed by Focal to integrate easily into an existing setup, whether wall-mounted or floor-standing. Its ultra-flat format allows it to be placed in restricted spaces without compromising bass performance, while doing away with cabling thanks to its dedicated wireless link.
It features a 21 cm long-throw woofer mounted in a flat bass-reflex enclosure, a configuration that delivers generous bass despite the subwoofer's reduced footprint. The BASH amplification delivers 150 W peak and 110 W continuous, ensuring a fast and dynamic response to signal transients. The frequency response spans from 40 Hz to 200 Hz (± 3 dB), with an adjustable crossover frequency between 50 and 200 Hz and adjustable phase from 0 to 180°, two settings that allow the subwoofer's integration with the rest of the system to be fine-tuned.
Wireless transmission takes place at 2.4 GHz via a dedicated transmitter, with a stated range of up to 15 metres, and offers LFE as well as left/right inputs to suit different source configurations.

What to check before buying used
Test the operation of the 2.4 GHz wireless link with the original transmitter: reduced range or intermittent dropouts often indicate a worn module or transmitter, which can be difficult to locate on its own. Also check that the BASH amplifier module delivers its power without distortion or background noise at high volume, and inspect the suspension of the 21 cm woofer as well as the bass-reflex port, as sagging or tearing permanently affects bass performance. Finally, checking the crossover and phase settings ensures that the control electronics respond correctly.
