Description
The Focal SW 1000Be is an active subwoofer, resulting from a redesign of the subwoofer from the Electra Be range, specially reworked to pair with speakers from the Sopra line. It complements a Hi-Fi or home cinema installation by handling the lowest frequencies of the sound spectrum.
In a stereo Hi-Fi configuration, the SW 1000Be is designed to support full-range speakers, extending the response curve in the bass. This extension allows the whole system to deliver deeper bass than the main speakers could produce on their own, without them having to operate outside their natural register.
In a 5.1 or multi-channel home cinema system, this subwoofer takes on the role of a dedicated LFE channel for the extreme bass. It is designed to accurately reproduce the most pronounced effects of a film soundtrack, bringing the impact and depth expected in this type of use.

What to check before buying used
On the SW 1000Be, the amplifier module on the rear panel deserves a full test of the line inputs and the level control, whose potentiometers can become oxidised over time. The woofer, subjected to high amplitudes, should be checked at the suspension for any sagging or cracking. Finally, the cabinet's woodwork, bulkier than that of a standard speaker, may show knocks on the edges or noticeable veneer damage from being moved.
