Description
The Furutech Evolution II Speaker is a speaker cable designed to connect an amplifier to loudspeakers. It belongs to Furutech's Evolution series, positioned below the Reference series: the cable retains the brand's careful construction and treated conductors, but does without the GC-303 EMI-absorbing modules found on the Reference models, making it a more accessible version of Furutech's expertise.
The cable is built from six bundles of twenty α (Alpha)-treated OFC conductor strands, each strand measuring 0.16 mm in diameter, for an overall diameter of 1.15 mm. This α treatment, unique to Furutech, aims to reduce distortions related to copper's crystalline structure. The insulation uses a special polyethylene of 5.1 mm in diameter, designed to withstand high voltages and heat: this insulation limits the cable's capacitance and improves the mechanical damping of the conductors, two factors that affect the stability of the signal transmitted to the speakers.
The two cable runs (one per polarity) are joined together with cotton, then wrapped in a two-layer dark green PVC sheath of 13.5 mm in diameter. The whole assembly is covered with a braided nylon jacket of approximately 14.5 mm in diameter, which protects the cable and makes it easier to handle. The cable is offered in two lengths, 2 metres for the Speaker-04 reference and 3 metres for the Speaker-06, with FP-201(R) spade connectors fitted as standard, FP-202 banana connectors available on request.
This cable is aimed at hi-fi enthusiasts looking for a well-crafted amplifier-speaker connection, without going for the brand's top-of-the-range models fitted with EMI absorbers. It will suit both a stereo installation and a more modest system, as long as the user wants a speaker cable built with materials and insulation superior to those of a generic cable.

What to check before buying used
On this speaker cable, attention should first focus on the FP-201(R) or FP-202 connectors: their tightness and the absence of oxidation determine the contact with the amplifier and speakers. The double dark green PVC sheath and braided nylon jacket should be examined along their entire length, checking for cracks, cuts or crushed areas that would expose the six bundles of OFC conductors. The junction point between the two runs, joined by cotton, also deserves inspection, as a fault here could weaken the cable's mechanical cohesion.
