Description
The Cubitt 5 is a pair of active 2-way speakers designed by Fyne Audio to replace a traditional hi-fi system with a compact, self-contained setup. Each speaker houses its own amplification, allowing an audio source to be connected directly without the need for a separate amplifier, whether for streaming music, watching a film or playing vinyl records.
At the heart of the system is a 5-inch IsoFlare driver paired with a 19 mm titanium concentric dome tweeter, arranged as a time-aligned point source. This configuration aims to deliver a coherent stereo image across a wider listening area rather than at a single sweet spot. The active amplification delivers a total maximum output of 240 W, controlled by an active DSP crossover, with a frequency response spanning 43 Hz to 34 kHz.
The connectivity covers five types of input: Bluetooth 5.0 aptX HD and AAC for high-resolution wireless streaming up to 24-bit / 96 kHz, HDMI ARC (2.0 PCM) for television sound via a single cable, an analogue RCA line input, a built-in phono input compatible with high-output MM or MC cartridges, and a digital optical input. A dedicated output is also provided for connecting a subwoofer.

What to check before buying used
The titanium concentric dome tweeter, exposed within the throat of the IsoFlare driver, is vulnerable to knocks and fingerprints that can affect treble reproduction: a close visual inspection is recommended before purchase. Also check that each input functions correctly, particularly Bluetooth aptX HD and the HDMI ARC connection, and confirm there is no crackling from the built-in active DSP amplification. On the phono input, test compatibility with a high-output MM or MC cartridge to rule out any background noise or channel imbalance.
