Description
The F500S is a 2-way bookshelf speaker from Fyne Audio, built around an IsoFlare coaxial driver combining a 150 mm midrange/woofer with a 25 mm magnesium dome compression tweeter. This point-source arrangement places both transducers on a single acoustic axis, which promotes a coherent sound image regardless of the listening position within the room.
The crossover splits frequencies at 1.7 kHz, via a 2nd order low-pass slope and 1st order high-pass slope. The downward-firing port, paired with a Tractrix BassTrax diffuser, distributes low frequencies evenly around the speaker, which limits effects caused by proximity to a wall or piece of furniture. A presence switch on the rear allows the response to be adjusted between 2.5 and 5.0 kHz over a ± 3 dB range, to fine-tune the tonality according to the room or the listener's preferences.
This combination of moderate sensitivity and 8 Ω impedance makes it compatible with a wide range of integrated amplifiers of good quality, without requiring very high power to perform correctly.
The F500S is aimed at those seeking a compact bookshelf speaker for a medium-sized room, in stereo or as a complement to a home cinema system, where available space does not allow for floorstanding speakers.

What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the IsoFlare coaxial driver's suspension (flexibility, absence of cracking or splitting) as well as the operation of the rear presence switch, which can oxidise over time. Also inspect the Tractrix BassTrax port underneath the speaker and the cabinet (veneer, corners, absence of knocks or deformation) to rule out any defect affecting the bass response or the appearance.
