Description
The GigaWatt PF-2 EVO is a mains power distributor designed to power an audio or video system while filtering disturbances present on the electrical network. It distributes current to six output outlets via a proprietary wiring system, with the aim of preserving the quality of the electrical signal supplied to connected devices.
The power distributor is based on a star wiring topology, fed by distribution bars made of high-purity cathodic copper (Cu-ETP). This architecture routes current directly to each pair of outlets via crimped and screwed connections, ensuring balanced power distribution regardless of the load applied to a given outlet. Mains distortion is treated by an RLC filtering block built with low-inductance metallised polyester capacitors and an IP (Iron Powder) core, the whole assembly being silver-soldered onto a printed circuit board with wide track sections. Surge protection is provided by a multi-stage circuit combining plasma spark gaps and UltraMOV varistors, without resorting to traditional thermal fuses that could limit current flow. The six output outlets are GigaWatt G-040 units in Schuko format, fitted with brass contacts directly silver-plated, with no intermediate layer of copper or nickel, and subjected to cryogenic treatment as well as demagnetisation. With a maximum output power of 3680 W, a maximum current of 16 A and a peak current of up to 13000 A, the unit is designed for installations with demanding instantaneous power requirements.
This type of mains distributor is aimed at users of hi-fi or home cinema installations who are concerned about the quality of the electrical supply delivered to their equipment, particularly when several components (amplifier, source, DAC) are connected simultaneously to the same power point.

What to check before buying used
With this type of mains distributor, particular attention should be paid to the condition of the six G-040 outlets: the built-in surge protection shutters must open and close without sticking, and the silver-plated contacts must show no signs of overheating or excessive play when inserting a plug. It is also worth checking that the surge protection circuit has not been triggered by a significant electrical event, which could reduce its future effectiveness without this being visible from the outside.
