Description
The CD-10 is a compact CD player designed by Gold Note to serve as a digital source in a high-end hi-fi system. It plays CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs in red book format, and is controlled via a touchscreen, a rotary control or the supplied multifunction remote.
The AK4493 converter, paired with the Stream Unlimited loading mechanism, ensures highly precise playback, with a speed fluctuation of 0.0001% and total harmonic distortion limited to a maximum of 0.001%. The 128 dB signal-to-noise ratio and 127 dB dynamic response reflect a very clean reproduction, with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz at ±0.3 dB. Output can be via unbalanced RCA or balanced XLR, both at 2 Vrms, with a switchable digital volume control, allowing direct connection to a power amplifier if required.
The coaxial S/PDIF and TOS-Link digital inputs and outputs, both at 24-bit/192 kHz, allow the CD-10 to be used as an external DAC or integrated into a wider digital system.
This player is aimed at music lovers who favour physical media and are looking for a compact, carefully engineered CD source, capable of fitting into a high-end system without taking up the space of a traditional full-width player.

What to check before buying used
The Stream Unlimited loading unit and laser lens deserve close inspection: check that the tray or loading mechanism operates without noise or slowdown and that playback starts without error on various types of discs, including CD-R and CD-RW. Also test the touchscreen and rotary control, as well as the supplied remote, to rule out any display or touch responsiveness faults.
