Description
The Aon 3 is a bookshelf speaker from GoldenEar, originally designed to serve as a nearfield monitor in a professional mixing context. Its compact format allows for placement on a shelf or stand, while aiming for accurate sound reproduction and a three-dimensional stereo image inspired by the work carried out on the brand's Triton Two floorstanding speakers.
The Aon 3's woofer/midrange driver uses technology derived from the midrange units developed for the Triton. The speaker also incorporates the high-velocity folded ribbon (HVFR) tweeter, a costly technology shared with the Triton models, designed to render treble with finesse and speed.

The side-mounted planar passive radiators are worth a visual check: their fabric suspension should remain supple and free of tears, otherwise the bass response loses all coherence. The HVFR ribbon, more fragile than a conventional tweeter, cannot withstand any impact or power overload: check for the absence of distortion or a veiled sound in the treble. Also inspect the condition of the cabinet and the fixing of the grilles, as well as the cleanliness of the speaker connectors at the rear.
