Description
The SuperSat 3 belongs to the GoldenEar family of satellites, small-format speakers designed to disappear into a room while providing a full channel within a multichannel installation. Its curved cabinet, 30.5 cm high for a depth of just 7 cm, can be placed on a shelf, mounted flat against a wall using the keyhole bracket, or fitted to a stand or bracket via the rear threaded insert. A horizontal variant, the 3C, completes the range for the centre channel.
The acoustic pairing combines two 4.5-inch MVPP midrange-woofer drivers with moulded baskets and an HVFR folded ribbon tweeter. This type of tweeter accounts for the claimed extension to 35 kHz, well beyond the audible range, with a very lightweight diaphragm that follows transients without lag. The bass, meanwhile, rolls off at 80 Hz: the SuperSat 3 is designed to work with a subwoofer, the crossover point falling precisely where multichannel processors typically set it. The 92 dB sensitivity and nominal impedance of 4 Ω, 8 Ω compatible, make it easy to drive, with a recommended amplification range of 20 to 200 watts per channel.
The cabinet is not made of wood but of rigid polymer loaded with marble powder, a dense material chosen for its low self-resonance, a critical point on such a slim enclosure, where the walls sit close to the drivers. The finish is a piano gloss black, and the weight remains contained at 2.3 kg per speaker, which simplifies wall mounting.
This model is aimed at anyone wanting a high-performing home cinema system without bulky speakers: four SuperSat 3 units as front and surround channels, a 3C in the centre and an active subwoofer form a coherent 5.1 setup. It is equally suited to rear channels or height speakers within an existing GoldenEar installation, as well as to rooms where furniture rules out any floorstanding speaker.

What to check before buying used
The folded ribbon tweeter is the most delicate component: play a signal rich in treble to detect any weakening or metallic tone from one speaker compared with the other, as a fatigued or torn ribbon cannot simply be repaired. Next, check the black gloss finish of the cabinet, which marks easily, and the condition of the rear fittings, threaded insert not stripped, keyhole bracket not deformed, as these points have often endured several wall installations. Finally, inspect the suspensions of both midrange-woofers and the tightness of the terminals, and ask for the original shelf stand, which is hard to find separately.
