Description
The GoldenEar T66 is a high-fidelity floorstanding speaker, the first model in the brand's new T series. It carries on the spirit of the Triton series, with a tall, slender profile, and integrates DSP-driven subwoofer amplification directly within the cabinet, making it an active speaker on the bass section while remaining passive across the rest of the spectrum.
The speaker combines several types of transducers: a high-velocity folded ribbon AMT tweeter for the treble, two 4.5-inch cast-basket midrange/woofer drivers, two 5 x 9-inch quadratic long-throw subwoofers and two 8 x 12-inch quadratic planar infrasonic radiators. The built-in subwoofer amplification delivers 1000 watts peak and 500 watts RMS, generating deep bass while keeping precise control of cone movement, without drawing on the external amplifier for the lowest frequencies. The stated frequency response spans 29 Hz to 25 kHz, with a sensitivity of 91 dB (1W/1m at 4Ω) and a nominal impedance of 4Ω, for a recommended amplification of between 20 and 500 W. The cabinet sits on an aluminium base fitted with adjustable feet, allowing the speaker's footing to be adapted to the type of floor.
The T66 is aimed at listeners seeking full, well-controlled bass reproduction without having to add a separate subwoofer. Its multi-way configuration and integrated bass amplification suit a high-end stereo setup, for demanding music listening in a living room.

What to check before buying used
On this type of speaker with a built-in amplified subwoofer section, the proper operation of the onboard electronics and DSP should be checked, along with the absence of background noise or unwanted cutting out of the bass amplification. The planar radiators and internal subwoofers should be visually inspected for any sagging or deformation of the suspension. It is also worth checking the condition of the power cord dedicated to the built-in amplification and that the adjustable feet under the aluminium base are properly tightened.
