Description
The Triton Two+ is a hybrid floorstanding speaker from GoldenEar, combining an actively amplified bass section with passive drivers for the midrange and treble. This self-contained floorstanding format removes the need for a separate subwoofer, whilst covering an extended frequency range from 16 Hz to 35 kHz.
The lower end of the spectrum is handled by a 1200-watt GoldenEar ForceField digital amplifier, which drives two 5 x 9 inch quadratic woofers mounted at the front. These work alongside two 7 x 10 inch quadratic infrasonic passive radiators, mounted on the sides and inertially balanced to limit vibrations transmitted to the cabinet. For the upper midrange-bass, two 4.5 inch drivers incorporate GoldenEar's proprietary Multi-Vaned Phase Plug design and are arranged in a D'Appolito array either side of the tweeter, a high-velocity folded ribbon (HVFR) model handling treble reproduction.
With a sensitivity of 91 dB and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms compatible with 8 ohms, the Triton Two+ accepts recommended amplification of between 20 and 500 watts per channel, making it compatible with a wide range of amplifiers, from modest models to more powerful setups.

The floorstanding format, 122 cm in height and weighing 33 kg, requires dedicated space and a floor capable of bearing the load.

What to check before buying used
The side passive radiators and the front-mounted woofers warrant a visual check of the cabinet, particularly on the sides, along with careful listening to detect any unwanted noise or distortion at high volume. The folded ribbon tweeter (HVFR) is a delicate component: check for any tearing or sagging of the ribbon. Finally, the ForceField amplifier built into the subwoofer section should be tested under power to ensure it ramps up correctly without cutting out or humming.
