Description
The Goldring GL2200 is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge, designed to be fitted to a tonearm and convert the groove of the vinyl record into an electrical signal for a phono preamplifier. It fits onto turntables with a standard cartridge mount.
Its technical distinctiveness lies in its elliptical diamond stylus, paired with a plated alloy cantilever. Compared with a conventional spherical stylus, this combination allows more precise contact with the groove walls and thus offers better sound definition, particularly in terms of detail and treble reproduction.

The GL2200's elliptical stylus is more fragile than a spherical tip: check for chipping or asymmetric wear under a microscope, as a damaged stylus can harm the grooves. Also check the condition of the cantilever, which is often bent or detached after an impact, and the flexibility of the internal suspension, which stiffens over time and impairs groove tracking. A compatible replacement stylus remains available, which makes it possible to bring a cartridge with a worn suspension back to life.
