Description
The Goldring GL2300 is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge, designed to fit a turntable and convert the record's grooves into an electrical signal for a phono preamplifier. It fits onto a standard headshell and replaces an original or worn cartridge in order to restore or improve playback quality.
Its central technical element is a diamond stylus cut to the Gyger II profile, a fine line type geometry. This type of cut provides a more precise contact surface with the groove walls, which translates into better definition and increased tracking ability when listening, including on dense musical passages or significant modulations cut into the vinyl.
This cartridge is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts with a mid-range turntable, where a more modest original cartridge sometimes limits the sonic potential of the setup. What to check before buying used
When buying used, priority attention should be given to the condition of the diamond stylus, the most heavily used and wear-sensitive component: a damaged or blunted stylus impairs groove tracking and can damage the records played. It is also worth checking the integrity of the cantilever, the thin rod supporting the diamond stylus, as well as the mounting of the cartridge on its headshell, as any play or misalignment can affect stereo playback and long-term groove wear.
