Description
The Grado Prestige GREEN 3 is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge designed to fit a turntable via T4P mounting, directly onto the headshell without additional screws. It belongs to Grado's Prestige range, an American manufacturer based in Brooklyn, where every cartridge is hand-assembled.
The elliptical diamond stylus is mounted on a three-piece OTL (Optimized Transmission Line) cantilever, fitted to a brass bushing. This cantilever design aims to transmit the signal picked up from the groove to the generator with minimal parasitic resonances, limiting distortion and noise inherent to the playback system. The cartridge relies on a dual-magnet system, intended to balance the two stereo channels, with magnetic circuit components manufactured to tight tolerances.
Electrically, the Green3 delivers an output of 4 mV at 5 cm/s (45 degrees), with a DC resistance of 660 ohms and an inductance of 50 mH. What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the elliptical stylus and OTL cantilever, which are prone to impact damage and wear: a worn tip or a twisted overhang noticeably degrades treble reproduction. Also check the alignment and fit on the T4P mounting, as well as the condition of the connection wires, which often become fragile with age. The tracking force should be set between 1.6 and 1.9 grams to protect the groove and maintain proper balance between the two channels.
